Our composition workshop forms the heart of the Loretto Project. We created it with a small, intimate group of composers in mind — graduate students or recent graduates, from varied backgrounds and aesthetics, on the cusp of their professional careers. Our three composition fellows are invited to Loretto based on a nomination process.
We seek out individuals with a sensibility for chamber music and open-minded collaboration. Together, we’ll workshop new pieces, discuss music, find inspiration in the nature and history of Loretto, and share our musical experiences with the community.
Composition fellows receive private lessons with our Composer-in-Residence; workshop new pieces in rehearsals with Longleash; enjoy professionally recorded live performances of their new works; and explore the Loretto grounds through the creation of a site-specific miniatures project.
