Tree/Peace by Pauline Oliveros

Tree/Peace, a collaboration between Longleash and Pascal Perich, explores themes of interconnectedness, collective consciousness, and receptiveness to our environment. Developed in collaboration with Longleash, Tree/Peace offers a visual response to American composer Pauline Oliveros’ 1984 work of the same name. Oliveros’ work, a structured improvisation for violin, cello, and piano, prompts its performers to imagine, remember and contemplate various stages in the life cycle of a tree as they play, react and respond to each other.

Tree/Peace was performed by Longleash (Pala Garcia, violin; John Popham, cello; and Renate Rohlfing, piano) and filmed by Pascal Perich onsite at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest (Bardstown, KY), the Loretto Motherhouse (Nerinx, KY), and in New York City. This project was made possible by Music Academy of the West’s Alumni Enterprise Award.
